Guidelines

The Chelsea International Photography Competition will open for submissions from July 18 through September 13th, 2017.

Eligibility

There are two competition categories: Amateur and Professional. National and international submissions are welcome. Participants must be at least 18 years of age.

Submission Categories

You may submit your artwork to one of two categories:

Amateur photography: Amateur photographers are those who engage in photography for pleasure rather than for professional purposes or gain. Their engagement with photography is more casual.

Professional photography: Professional photographers are those who have a solid body of work, a number of publications in their name and/or earn the majority of their income from the practice of photography.

Media And Topics

Digital, analog, phone images and images taken with any camera are all accepted.

The competition is open to images that may investigate any topic, from regional cultures and travel photography to commercial work and photojournalism, though certain restrictions may apply. Please see the terms and conditions.

Entry Fees

Amateur Photography: Entry fee of $25 for up to 5 images in this category with a fee of $5 for each additional image.

Professional Photography: Entry fee of $45 for up to 5 images in this category with a fee of $5 for each additional image.

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and Diners, JCB, UnionPay as well as Paypal. Please note that once payment is made, your submission will be completed and you will not be able to make any changes.

Artworks for Exhibition

Amateur photographers: – Agora Gallery will print and mount selected photographs (16 x 24 inches/ 40.6 x 61.0 cm). If works are not sold during the exhibition, the gallery will also cover the cost of return shipping to photographers. There will be no additional expense other than the cost of the entry fee.

Professional photographers: Photographers will each be allocated up to 15 linear feet of gallery wall space in the exhibition and will ship the photographs selected by the jurors to Agora Gallery. Framed photographs may not exceed 48 x 60 inches or 122 x 152 cm. If works are not framed, they must be mounted, glazed, and ready to hang.

Competition Awards

The work of selected artists will be presented at Agora Gallery, an elegant street-level space located in the heart of the Chelsea arts district next to the High Line in New York City. Agora Gallery attracts thousands of visitors with its welcoming interiors and striking exterior.

Exhibition

An exhibition will be held from January 27-February 7, 2018, of photographs selected from two categories.

Categories:

  • Amateur photographers are those who engage in photography for pleasure rather than for professional purposes or gain. Their engagement with photography is more casual.
  • The work of twenty (20) amateur photographers will be selected. Each photographer will exhibit one photograph, to be printed and mounted by Agora Gallery. The Gallery will also cover the cost of return shipping to photographers. Selected photographers in the Amateur category will have no other expenses beyond the entry fee.
  • In addition, all photographs submitted by the selected photographers will be displayed on our website for one year.
  • The entry fee for the Amateur category is $25 for up to 5 images with a fee of $5 for each additional image.
  • Professional photographers are those who have a solid body of work, previously participated in exhibitions and/or earn a majority of their income from the practice of photography.
  • The work of ten (10) photographers will be selected and each will be allocated up to 15 linear feet of gallery wall space in the exhibition.
  • A $500 cash prize will be awarded to each of the selected professional photographers.
  • Photographers selected for the Professional category are responsible for arrangements and expense for the round-trip shipment of the artworks selected by the jurors. Works should be sent ready to hang.

The entry fee for the Professional category is $45 for up to 5 images with a fee of $5 for each additional image.
